Tourist counting blessings after rescue near Far North waterfall

A 36-year-old man is counting his blessings after being rescued from waters near an iconic Far North waterfall yesterday.
Police and other emergency service crews, including Rescue 510 and State emergency service volunteers, commenced an air and water search and successfully located the missing interstate tourist in a nearby river, downstream, in the vicinity of Josephine Falls, more than an hour south of Port Douglas, around 4.20pm yesterday afternoon.
Police said initial information suggests the swimmer was dragged underwater before his subsequent rescue. The man was later transported to Innisfail Hospital for treatment.
Police wish to remind everyone to be mindful of conditions when swimming at Josephine Falls as dangerous flash flooding can happen without warning at any time of year, even on a sunny day.
Rescue activity surged at the falls earlier this year with a number of swimmers requiring assistance in January after swimming in dangerous conditions.
