Housing, the role of tourism and agriculture in supporting economic diversification, reconciliation and the Path to Treaty, and the Q2032 procurement strategy will be part of the conversation at the Far North Queensland regional community forum meeting in Port Douglas today.

Forum members will meet Great Barrier Reef operators at Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina to discuss environmental initiatives, and eco and adventure tourism and their value to the economy.

Presentations to the members include UNESCO Great Barrier Reef conservation, and a question-and-answer session on sustainable economies.  

There will also be a presentation about the Q2032 procurement strategy whereby Queensland-based businesses will be prioritised to share in an anticipated $180 billion in government procurement from now until the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“This is another exciting forum, with Path to Treaty, a sustainable and diversifying economy, and the Q2032 Procurement Strategy underpinning our conversation about the exciting future for Far North Queensland," Cook MP Cynthia Lui explained to Newsport.

The Far North Queensland Regional Community Forum is co-chaired by the Assistant Minister for Tourism Industry Development Michael Healy MP and Cynthia Lui MP. 

The Minister for Child Safety and Minister for Seniors and Disability Services Craig Crawford, and the Minister for Regional Development and Manufacturing and Minister for Water Glenn Butcher are also attending.  

The Far North Queensland regional community forum is one of seven to be held in regional centres across the state, with similar forums for Central Queensland, Darling Downs South West Queensland, North and North West Queensland, Mackay Isaac Whitsunday, Western Queensland, and Wide Bay Burnett Fraser Coast.  

One more round of regional community forums is scheduled for 2023.
