Man left singed, bruised after Craiglie boat explosion, Police chasing witnesses after Oak Beach bike crash
WITNESS APPEAL
Douglas Shire Police and the Forensic Crash Unit have urged any motorist(s) that spotted a blue 2012 Yamaha R6 motorbike and a silver 1988 BMW K100 motorbike traveling north together along the Captain Cook High towards Port Douglas yesterday morning to contact them.
The appeal comes after the rider of the Yamaha crossed into the southbound lane and crashed into a guard rail at Oak Beach around 7.40am.
The accident left the rider, a 31-year-old Port Douglas man, with “serious injuries” including back complaints, which required him to be airlifted to Cairns Hospital.
Meantime, a man involved in a boat fire in a new housing subdivision in Craiglie just days ago continues to recover from the incident.
A source told Newsport the man is “doing well” after suffering “a scarring burn to his arm and is a bit singed and burned from being thrown from the boat but continues to recover”.
It’s understood a gas cylinder valve failed and exploded, which is being looked at as the reason behind the incident.
The source praised local emergency services for doing a great job at the scene.
