In hair scratching scenes a man has been pictured fishing on the banks of the Russell River at Babinda, over an hour’s drive south of Port Douglas in close proximity to a large crocodile that is known to inhabit the river.
West London’s Tez Blackmore took the pic just days ago of the man fishing just metres away from favourite local crocodile ‘Clyde’, a dominate male croc in the area.
The fisherman’s act has again stunned the Far North community, with Newsport’s crocodile expert Tommy Hayes again in disbelief about the circumstances behind the incident.
“What the guy is doing in the video/picture is beyond complacency, it’s complete stupidity,” Mr Hayes said.
“Where he’s standing is maybe 10 or 15 metres from the crocodile. I’ve got goosebumps and not the good kind.”
Just days ago Newsport ran a story on social media influencers who were taking pictures and videos of themselves standing, fishing in dangerous, precarious positions in known crocodile habitat across the country.
