Providing clear undeniable data mixed with a convincing case that stacks up against “ a formula” could be a way forward for a local campaign to gain critical traction and kickstart regular public transport bus services between Cairns and Port Douglas.

Weeks ago local Douglas Shire resident David Haratsis' Launched a very pubic campaign on social media to lobby for bus services between the two major destination hubs.

Mr cited many different reasons as to why the region would benefit from introducing such services.

Such reasoning included access to health care, more consistent methods for hospitality workers to get to work in the evenings and increased options for tourists and so on.

“I’m definitely aware of the campaign” Cook MP Cynthia Lui told Newsport from her Cairns office.

“This matter is an ongoing conversation; I’ve had the conversation with Transport Minister Mark Bailey a number of times.

“It’s been brought to my attention there is a proven and trusted formula used by the State to determine if public transport services like this really are a genuine possibility.

“My understanding is the proposed route falls just outside that. In saying that, I would love to find a solution.

“It’s something that we have to work through because when you have a formula that’s been in existence for a long time how do you then present an argument that would then get people to see this is actually something that is seriously needed.”
