Key anti-bullying program puts call out for new mentors

BULLYING PREVENTION

Positions have opened up to be part of a program that empowers and helps students who have or are currently experiencing bullying at school.
The Australian Martial Arts Youth Development Alliance (AMAYDA) is an anti-bullying, self defence program that has been rolled out in Queensland schools over the past few years.
The program’s ambassador is well known former Australian boxing champion, Jeff Horn. The program doesn’t encourage violence, rather gives more vulnerable children the tools to simply defend themselves and ward off bullies should the occasion rise.
Now, those across the Douglas Shire have an opportunity to make a difference, with a number of mentorship spots now open.
“We’re calling for four new mentors to get involved with the program,” youth mentor Jodie Cartwright explained.
“The new mentors would be trained and learn about the program, once that’s competed they would be involved with delivering the program to school children.
“The new roles are in a paid capacity.”
