Douglas Shire well placed to snag future major productions

IDEAL LOCATION

The Douglas Shire continues to position itself as an ideal international shooting location on the back of Hollywood motion picture “Wizards” being filmed in our region.
Far North Queensland and in particular Port Douglas and Daintree is no stranger to our lush rainforest surrounds and crystal clear waters being utilised in Hollywood blockbusters such as “Paradise Road” and “Fools Gold” among others, filmed here in past years.
“We have always been one of the big filming destinations both from a national and international perspective,” proud Douglas mayor and Clink Theatre president Michael Kerr explained to Newsport.
“The money these big productions inject into the Shire is phenomenal.”
There were some key learnings taken away from recent filming to ensure the region stays in the box seat to snag future productions.
“If you look at Wizards, it was such a quick process,” he revealed.
“A month beforehand we had the meetings with their site person, they said they were also considering another location (to shoot) and we said ‘no, we want you to film here’.
“And they said ‘that’s why we’re here because you guys work so well with us, we feel welcome and you go out of your way as a community to accommodate us’.
“We also know that providing extremely fast internet to these productions is crucial as they require it to send off pictures down the line to be edited – and having fast local internet is crucial to be able to do that.”
