Douglas Shire community encouraged to lend a hand to popular local family in time of need

HELPING HAND

Douglas Shire community members have been encouraged to reach out and assist a local family as they attempt to get back on their feet following a devastating fire to their Port Douglas property.
Niki Whiting, Operations and Sales manager of the popular Flames of the Forest business in Mowbray was left sad and dismayed just weeks ago when suspected hot lint fragments inside a dryer caught fire in the family’s garage.
The ensuing blaze destroyed the garage and family’s office, while the property’s four bedrooms all need new carpeting.
Just days ago a GoFundme page was established for the Whiting family by a friend.
Those who are able are invited to visit the page and leave a small donation where they can.
“Sadly, we didn’t have contents insurance and we lost many belongings in the fire,” Ms Whiting explained to Newsport.
“So many people have been asking if there’s anything they can do and honestly just sparing some loose change would help us so much.
“Our long-term goal is to replace our whole laundry, carpets, mattresses, kids toys, clothing and suitcases.”
