The Port Douglas Crocs’ brave quest for premiership glory this year is over after they were outclassed 138-43 by a classy and rampant Lions outfit in today’s AFL Cairns grand final at Cazalys.

The Crocs trailed by 36 points at half time and fought bravely after the main break, however they were unable to convert their genuine goal scoring chances in the final two terms to make a serious run at reducing the margin.

The Lions victory means they have now won back-to-back AFL Cairns premierships.

While beaten the Crocs can still hold their heads high and be proud of another very successful season under Brad Cooper.

Josh Mawson, Ethan McCullough and Daniel Davidson were among Port’s best players.

Earlier in the day the first quarter was an even affair until the Lions kicked the first major after 10 minutes.

The Crocs soon replied with a goal of their own before the Lions kicked another three majors to lead 26-7 at quarter time.

The Lions jumped out of the blocks in the second term kicking four straight goals before the Crocs replied late in the quarter, with the defending premiers taking a 50-15 half time lead, and a 54 point lead at three quarter time.
