Beach Shack coming back, with pizza and Middle Eastern fare

SHARED DINING

One of Port Douglas’s popular evening bar-eateries is coming back soon and hopes to include a new pizza maker to share its dining experience.
The Beach Shack at 4-Mile Beach has not been able to open since late last year due to Cairns Airport virtually closing down in the midst of COVID-19.
But owner Nat Towers said she is now on the lookout for a new tenant within the shared dining venue – a pizza business.
“The Beach Shack has been born out of the need to offer quick and quality food in the area,” Ms Towers said.
Although each enterprise is run independently, she said the ‘co-op’ concept aim is all outlets work together as a whole.
“Working in a co-operative allows the outlets to spend more time ‘creating’ than being burdened down with setting up the whole enterprise of a commercial restaurant, such as insurance and pest control," she said
"We sublet to tenants and give them an exciting platform to experiment and achieve their desires to create and serve to the public with fast and quality food.”
The re-located Melbourne owners of Twinkle Town – the new main front kitchen – Rachel and Ethan, want their focus to be on simple, flavourful share plates “using only the highest quality seasonal produce sourced from local suppliers,” they said.
Ms Towers said the Beach Shack Co-op hopes to re-open five nights a week, from Thursday to Monday, towards the end of September.
“We are still looking for passionate pizza people to take over the pizza kitchen tenancy. This a rare opportunity for somebody to take control over this commercial kitchen and reap great rewards.
“The Beach Shack Co-op has so much potential, and adding a daytime coffee cart would also be fantastic to have morning coffee looking over the beach.”
