If you’ve ever driven through the Daintree there’s a good chance you’ve stopped at local institution and the ever-popular Mason’s store for a bite to eat and a swim in their tropical oasis behind the café.

For years the store, which offers take away groceries, alcohol and warm cooked food has been a welcome sight for locals and travellers alike on their adventures or journeys to and from Cape Tribulation.

They don’t come more local than the Mason surname in the Daintree.

“The shop has been open since around 1976-77 and we definitely appreciate the patronage we’ve received from locals and visitors since that time,” co-owner Lawrence Mason said, who shares the ownership with his mother.

“That little business put me through school and college and I’ll always be grateful for that.

“We have all walks of life that come through our doors for a feed or a swim.

“One day we’ll have locals from our area wander in for a meal the next a couple from Melbourne will be in the area exploring and stopping by to visit the shop.”
