Savannah in the Round officially began with a bang last night as thousands of fans including hundreds from across the Douglas Shire packed out Mareeba’s Kerribee Park to enjoy a range of music from a host of Aussie hit makers.

Just before 10pm Shannon Noll hit the main stage and the ex Condobolin boy was greeted with a big cheer as he went on to deliver songs from his vast catalogue including “Shine”, “What about me” and other well-known offerings.

The moment wasn’t lost on Noll, who thanked the adoring crowd for their unwavering support.

“If it wasn’t for you guys, we wouldn’t be here,” Noll said from his microphone to the thousands of attentive fans.

“The last two years haven’t been easy, so to see so many of you here, supporting Savannah in the Round, supporting music and getting behind events like this is just absolutely wonderful.”

In a stunning sight on the opening day there were tents and campervans parked right across the venue and as far as the eyes could see in wonderful signs for the event.

In perfect Friday conditions, patrons enjoyed other acts such as McAlister Kemp, The Badloves, Tania Kernaghan and Gina Jeffreys.

Today’s highlights include Amy Sheppard at the Big Top Music Hall from 1.30pm, Adam Brand on the main stage from 4pm and Jon Stevens also on the main stage from 9.30pm.

Tomorrow afternoon two of the most anticipated acts on the bill, James Johnston and Brad Paisley will take to the main stage. Johnston starts his performance from 5pm, while Brad Paisley kicks off at 9.30pm.
