Close to 100 Douglas Shire residents have attended the much-awaited official opening of the much loved Paws and Claws in Craiglie.

The weekend’s official ceremony was an opportunity for the local community to inspect the facility which is said to be one of the most advanced kennel facilities in the country.

Leichhardt MP Warren Entsch formally opened the new centre.

In a highly touching moment Vanessa Cordingley, mother of Toyal Cordingley, attended the opening in honour of her daughter who previously volunteered at the centre.

Douglas Shire Mayor Michael Kerr reiterated that Toyah’s presence is still felt and noted that she is the “spiritual guardian of the new facility”.

A sausage sizzle was also held during the morning.

Anyone interested in being a volunteer dog walker is encouraged to get in contact with the centre.
