Local women from across the Douglas Shire have taken part in peaceful protests as part of a worldwide movement to highlight the death of Mahsa Amini in Iran whilst in (morality) police custody last month.
Police allegedly arrested Amini because her hijab showed more hair than ‘morality’ allowed.
Demonstrations under the slogan “Women, Life, Liberty” the protests took place in Port Douglas and major cities across the world including Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, London, New York, Paris, Rome, Seoul, Stockholm, Zurich, Berlin, Brussels, Madrid and Athens.
About 30 people from all nationalities stood in support in Rex Smeal Park to highlight the plight of not only the suppression of human rights in Iran, but increasingly, throughout the world.
