Huge crowds and perfect weather as legendary frontman closes out brilliant second day of Savannah in the Round

SAVANNAH SUCCESS

Fans have continued to lap up the incredible vibe and feel of this year’s Savannah in the Round, with legendary Australian rocker Jon Stevens officially closing out day two of the festival.
Hitting the stage just after 9.30pm under a stunning starlit Mareeba skyline Stevens proceeded to play his array of hits to a packed main stage crowd.
Whether belting out “Touch”, “Take me Back” or other songs from his vast catalogue Stevens’ vocal range and on-stage passion and presence had the crowd’s undivided attention throughout his generous, lengthy set.
“I’ve been excited about performing at Savannah now for a long while, it’s fast gaining a reputation for being a brilliant festival,” the popular vocalist said.
“I’ve been coming to Far North Queensland now since the 80s, I love it up here, if I’m not singing here, I’m fishing here, it’s just a wonderful place to visit, explore and sing the odd song or two.
“To be honest, I still get the same kick out of singing now as I ever did. Singing is about giving and bringing your best every single time, I never get sick of that – it’s always about the fans and giving them what they want to hear.”
Earlier fans were treated to an array of highlights throughout day two.
Amy Sheppard played the big top music hall at lunch time demonstrating her country chops to an audience that stretched from under the large tent and onto the surrounding hill vantage points.
In other highlights Vanessa Amorosi showed her famed vocal range throughout her 8.30pm main stage set, while rising act Darlinghurst played before a full crowd at the Bull Bar just after 3pm.
Emerging local star Jeremy Fletcher kicked off day two festivities playing the big top just after 10am.
It was a great development for the Far North product, who 12 months ago, played the Bull bar stage in his debut Savannah appearance.
Overall, day two was a huge success with a record crowd enjoying supreme warm weather and the many acts on offer throughout the day.
