Highly respected national reader survey again confirms Port Douglas as one of Australia’s most sought after holiday destinations

PLACE TO BE

While we already know we live in complete paradise a widely respected reader survey has confirmed Port Douglas as one of the most liveable and popular holiday destinations in the country.
Just hours ago Australia’s leading domestic travel magazine, Australian Traveller, named Port Douglas as the second best holiday town in Australia behind eventual winner, Broome.
The magazine’s editors included the results of a reader survey and the views of the wider travel industry when compiling this year’s subjective list.
“This is a major accolade for our region from travellers in the know,” proud Tourism Port Douglas Daintree chief Tara Bennett remarked.
“After the busiest season the region has ever experienced this is welcome recognition for our hard working industry who deliver world class experiences day in day out.
"Port Douglas is home to an abundance of natural assets with a bounty of highly sought after experiences. This recognition reinforces our belief that the Port Douglas and Daintree region is a leading holiday destination."
The final list is always a hot topic.
“It’s always tough to narrow down the best 50 towns and every time we do it we get lots of feedback on why town X should be included, town Y should be ranked higher, and town Z shouldn’t be on the list at all,” Australian Traveller’s founder and managing director, Quentin Long said.
“We think we’ve done a pretty good job with this year’s list but there are a few towns that are pretty unlucky to miss out.”
