Douglas Grass + Roots Expo to unite Shire and empower prospective volunteers to get involved in their community

BUSINESS FEATURE

The Douglas Grass + Roots Volunteer Network will host their volunteer expo this Saturday.
This is the volunteer network's inaugural event and it will provide people an opportunity to learn more about the different organisations they can volunteer with around the Shire and to learn about the benefits of volunteering.
"There’s been a 40% drop in people volunteering since COVID and we want to reverse this trend in Douglas," Network spokesperson Tanya Morris said.
"It will be held at George Davis Park, under the Raintrees. We are hoping to draw those attending the Mossman Markets so we will have music and family entertainment and giveaways.
"We are allocating sites for each participating organisations - 3m x 3m sites.
"There’s no cost. There will be no access to power or water and stallholders need to be ready by 8.30am and must remain at the event until after 12.30pm."
- Friends of the Foundation (Mossman Hospital) – Sausage sizzle
- Country Women’s Association – Devonshire tea
- Zumba Port Douglas – Will have a Zumba class
- Rainforest Rescue – Community tree planting days
- Tangaroa Blue Foundation – Clean up days throughout the shire
- Wonga Beach Rural Fire Brigade & Forest Creek Rural Fire Brigade
- Port Douglas Surf Life Saving Club
- Mossman Support Services
- Port Douglas Community Services Network Inc.
Ms Morris said everyone is welcome to attend Saturday's event.
“We will have volunteer organisation stalls, live entertainment and look forward to some friendly competition with games and challenges for the attendees throughout the day,” she said.
Volunteer involving organisations and potential volunteers are welcome to drop into the Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre to say hello to Tanya and find out more about local volunteering opportunities.
