Spreading the Christmas cheer throughout Douglas

CHRISTMAS CAN DRIVE
Christmas is a time to give and to help others. That’s why the team at LJ Hooker Port Douglas is calling on the community to help share the joy of Christmas this year by donating to their ‘Christmas Can Drive’.
LJ Hooker has teamed up with the Mossman Community Centre and Mossman Support Services to become a nominated drop off point for non-perishable donations.
These will be added to Christmas hampers that will be provided to members of the community identified as requiring assistance.
Driving the initiative, LJ Hooker’s Annie Mitchell said the team wanted to do something meaningful in the lead up to Christmas that everyone in the community could be involved with.
“We thought there was no better way to give something back to the community than helping people put food on the table for Christmas,” she explained to Newsport.
“It’s been a tough year for many, and we really wanted to try and spread some Christmas cheer throughout our region.”
The more the merrier
While the Mossman Community Centre and Mossman Support Services have previously provided this service, Ms Mitchell said this was the first year that LJ Hooker had partnered with the organisations.
“People going without over the festive season is commonplace, so if we can do something to help curb that then that is what Christmas is all about,” Ms Mitchell said.
“We have already received some wonderful donations from our staff and members of the community, and it is not even December yet.
“This really is a case of ‘the more the merrier’ so we will be accepting donations at our office on Macrossan Street up until the close of business, Thursday, December 22.”
“All donations will be sent to the Mossman Community Centre ‘Cottage’ that will be transformed into Santa’s Workshop where volunteers will wrap presents and pack the hampers in preparation for delivery.”
