A Perth couple who have flown in to experience the beauty of the Douglas Shire are now officially part of the story and history of one of the region’s most popular and enduring transfer businesses.

Upon arriving at Exemplar’s transfer desk at Cairns airport a short time ago Roland and Maria Fonseca were greeted by company founder and director Gordon Wellham who informed the couple they were officially Exemplar's one millionth booking.

“The Forseca’s are our one millionth booking since we went to a computerised booking system in 1997," a proud Mr Wellham revealed.

“Between 1993 and then we had done it manually in diaries - a quick look in the system shows we have carried over 2.1 million passengers since then.”

To mark the milestone Mr Wellham presented the holidaymakers with upgraded transfers along with champagne and a tropical fruit basket.

The special occasion comes just days after the small thriving business achieved separate success.

“It has been a big week for Exemplar,” Mr Wellham enthused.

“As well as this milestone, Exemplar won bronze in the major tour and transport operator category at the Queensland Tourism Awards on Friday night on the Gold Coast.

“It’s great to see the company and our staff, especially our drivers recognised for providing great service and a warm and friendly welcome to visitors to Cairns, Palm Cove and Port Douglas.”
