Miallo State School proving the place to be to see tomorrow's shining stars

A local parent has provided thoughtful and unique insights as to why she believes things are simply being done right at Miallo State School.
In a beautifully written letter to school staff a parent has outlined 26 separate reasons and examples about the wonderful processes and systems the school uses to develop, nurture and foster tomorrow’s leaders.
Some of the key reasons for the parent liking Miallo State School included;
#2 Electives for years 4-6 are brilliant! Love that they can choose woodwork, cooking and hands on activities. Love Fun Friday for the juniors.
#5 There is a work hard, play hard culture at Miallo. Teachers have high expectations of students in their academic achievements but still allow enough time during the day to get dirty in the sandpit and be children.
Which brings us to number 6…
#11 The communication via diaries – love this. AND that teachers check the diaries!
#13 Differentiated learning for the top kids too. Our kids now get in the car and tell me about all their learning – they did not do this before. They are engaged because they are being challenged and not getting
bored.
#14 Handwriting and bookwork being important – thank you.
#18 Coral. I think having Coral in the school is wonderful. [*Coral is the school therapy dog]
#19 The seriousness of electing school captains, house captains, student councillors. What a great learning experience for the kids.
#21 The amazing teachers who even after only having my children for a few weeks were able to talk to me about them at the parent teacher interviews and I felt that they already knew them.
#22 Approachable staff.

Mossman High School
Mossman Fire and Emergency services staged their yearly road crash scenario for year 12 students at Mossman High School yesterday.
The purpose of the activity was to educate students about general road safety and sensible driving behaviours.
A number of emergency vehicles were on site along with the rescue helicopter.
Wonga Beach State School
Just days ago Wonga Beach State School sent a team of 14 students to Cairns for the Indigenous Games Day.
The concept was created to acknowledge and celebrate Torres Strait and Indigenous culture and the impact indigenous games have had on the creation and evolution of many modern sports.
This year students played a game called Burionjin.
The Kabi Kabi people of south Queensland played Burionjin with a ball made out of kangaroo skins and stuffed with grass.
The game’s main purpose is to run as far as possible with the ball and cross over a line at the end of the field without being tagged by the opponent.
The fast paced running and passing team game consists of 12 players on each team.
Wonga Beach State School students performed extremely well on the day and demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship, behaviour and enthusiasm.
