Hardworking hospitality and tourism workers around Port Douglas have been gifted the opportunity to enjoy an on-the-house experience at a much-loved local wildlife park because of their efforts amidst the ongoing global pandemic.

Wildlife Habitat confirmed Port Douglas hospitality and tourism employees can visit the park for free from now until December 9.

The workers can also receive discounts to experience park activities such as Swim with the Salties and Breakfast with the Birds.

Wildlife habitat noted the local tourism and hospitality industries had struggled with continued lack of staff, accommodation shortages and other challenges.

“Wildlife Habitat knows how hard it has been, especially on frontline staff, and we would like to show our appreciation by offering free admission,” Director of sales and marketing Ben Woodward said.

"We welcome tourism industry workers to come and enjoy a relaxing morning."

Wildlife Habitat assistant manager Sybella Salter echoed Mr Woodward’s sentiments.

“The gesture is in recognition of the difficulties the industry has faced, especially on front-line, customer facing staff, and this is a way we can show our appreciation to the hardworking teams of our town,” Ms Salter noted.

“Come in for a few hours, or the full day and visit the park and all the recent upgrades for free.

“To claim free admission, tourism and hospitality employees can email the date they would like to visit and a letter or email from their place of employment to salesexec@wildlifehabitat.com.au.

Meantime, Wildlife Habitat has again proven just how popular an attraction it is after claiming silver at the recent Queensland tourism awards.

“During the COVID shutdown, Wildlife Habitat invested millions of dollars into improving a large majority of the park in preparation for a return of visitors,” Ms Salter explained.

“Guest feedback has been overwhelmingly positive towards these new displays and experiences and this was recognised at the recent Queensland Tourism awards, held on the Gold Coast with a silver in the hotly contested Tourism Attraction category.

“This is a massive achievement by the team at Wildlife Habitat and we look forward to Cairns hosting the 2023 Queensland Tourism Awards.”
