A Much-loved local bus company that operates school runs between Douglas and Cairns has confirmed it will cease a specific service at the end of the school year.

FNQ Bus lines held recent last-ditch discussions with local schools but no viable solutions were identified to prevent the service from being cancelled on a permanent basis.

“Due to the low number of students travelling on our Mossman, Port Douglas, Cairns school service, FNQ Bus Lines will not continue to run our Cairns school bus service from End of Term 2022,” FNQ Bus Lines operations manager Mark Johnson recently confirmed in email correspondence to students’ parents.

“St Monica’s College, St Augustine’s College and TAS White Rock have all been advised that FNQ Bus Lines will not run a Cairns service in 2023.

“We have considered alternatives however we cannot find a viable solution. I encourage you to contact your school to discuss options for 2023 travel. We thank you for your past business.”

The locally owned and operated Mossman based company has provided school runs across the region for the past 17 years.

The company also offers group airport transfers, rides for special events and weddings, tourism and dinner transfers and a host of other charter offerings.
