A public transport advocate has taken the next step in his bid for the region to attain regular services between Port Douglas and Cairns after the submission of a petition to Council this morning.

Over the past few months David Haratsis has launched a well backed page on social media that has continued to lobby Cook MP Cynthia Lui and others to push the case at a State level.

Just moments ago Council, in its second last Ordinary meeting of the year formally received and acknowledged the petition which was accompanied by 188 signatures.

Under item 8.1 the executive summary of the matter stated:

A petition regarding Public Transport in the Douglas Shire has been received by Council and in accordance with clause 5 of the Standing Orders for Council Meetings, the petition is presented to Council.

The principal petitioner is David Haratsis on behalf of the Douglas Shire, having received 188 signatures in support that the Douglas Shire Council request the State Government to commission a report into the socio-economic benefit of public transport within the Douglas Shire and further south to Cairns.

The motion to receive the petition was carried unanimously by all Councillors.

In other developments during a brisk 15 minute meeting Councillors received the Daintree Ferry infrastructure report for September.
