Security asking people to leave the property
Mystery surrounds the future of Clive Palmers Palmer Sea Reef Golf Course after golfers were told to pack up their clubs and stop playing.
Staff have also been asked to leave the premises and security personnel are turning cars around when they arrive on the property and not allowing anyone near the club house or the course itself.
Elite Security in Cairns are on duty, as well as Gatecrash Security from Brisbane who look after all of Clive Palmers security work.
A local resident from Paradise Links Resort next door told Newsport she knows of 20 people who were booked in to play golf tomorrow at the Palmer owned course but have been told that won’t be happening.
The woman said the golfers are now booked in at Mossman Golf Club. It’s believed bookings for functions have also been cancelled.
The very polite security guards told me they couldn’t comment on what was happening or give any reasons for the closure.
Any official comment would have to come from those in charge. So far that hasn’t occurred and it’s impossible to get through to Clive Palmer’s organisation at this stage.
Reasons unclear
Clive Palmer is the Chairman of the United Australia Party, which is heading into a federal election tomorrow, but it’s unknown if the closure has anything to do with that or possible threats against the controversial figure.
For the time being locals and visitors are in the dark.
