Models wanted for art fair

Art Fair
Cairns Indigenous Art Fair organisers (CIAF) have put a call out to emerging and interested models to get involved with the 13th year of the event.
This year’s version will be held at Tanks from July 6-10 and incorporate a Masters of Country theme which will highlight First peoples’ knowledge and resourceful of Indigenous plants and trees.
Throughout the week the family friendly free event will showcase the efforts of close to 300 visual artists and 150 performers across the multidimensional program.
The July event will comprise music, dance and language and be a platform to celebrate intergenerational indigenous culture.
Ahead of the event organisers have thrown the call out for more Indigenous models to get involved.
“It is important that we secure a group of more experienced models that will lead the way and mentor first timers into what is destined to be a truly exciting and special performance,” experienced fashion designer Lynelle Flinders said.
A local model has urged others to get involved.
“My experience with CIAF has been a real journey since my first fashion performance,” Benita Williams said.
“Since then, I have met so many people within the modelling industry. It has been an amazing journey watching the event and audience grow.
“CIAF is a great way to get into modelling and could easily lead you to other careers whether it is art, fashion and / or performance.
Once you’re in we become like family, working together as one to create something so meaningful to our culture and who we are and where we come from.
“I love seeing new faces stepping in to have a go, it’s an awesome experience and I’d recommend it to anyone with or without experience.
“I’m so excited to see what is created this year.”
Interested models and performances have until Friday May 6 to complete an expression of interest online at www.ciaf.com.au.
