Labor to fund a Tafe Health Hub on Thursday Island

Labor has announced it will fund the establishment of a TAFE Health Hub on TAFE Queensland Thursday Island campus if elected on May 21.
Labor’s $1 million commitment will fund the training and educational environment for delivering programs in Healthcare, Aged Care, Individual Support and Nursing.
The Centre will provide an opportunity to undertake training in a space that will replicate an operational ward with a nurses’ station, ward call buttons and include a simulated learning environment.
It is anticipated that it will include two six-bed wards with operating bathroom, toilet and shower at the Hub. Specific future delivery is anticipated to include the Diploma of Nursing and Certificate IV in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice.
The space is also to include connectivity to the TAFE Queensland network and to other regional areas to enable online training with other regional campuses.
Labor hopes by establishing a Health Hub location at the Thursday Island TAFE Campus it will enhance the delivery and employment opportunities for Indigenous Primary Health Care, Individual Support and Nursing.

The announcement is part of Labor’s $50 million TAFE Technology Fund which aims to improve IT facilities, workshops, laboratories and tele-health simulators across the country.
