Wanted: Cricket nets at Lou Prince Park

Petition Launched

Mossman High Year 7 pupil Max Schwarzer has many burning desires as a budding sportsman and such is his enthusiasm as he is currently leading the charge for cricket nets to be installed at Lou Prince Park.
And in taking his campaign to Douglas Shire Council, he has started a petition titled ‘Cooya Beach Cricket Nets’ which can be accessed here. At this point there are 60 signatories.
“I've always wanted somewhere local to train and I chose Lou Prince Park because it's the biggest park in Cooya Beach. Also, there is a playground there so if a parent takes their children, the older children can play cricket while the younger children can play on the playground,” said Max.
A keen cricketer, he decided in late 2020 to sign up for the Douglas Muddies Cricket Club and is still playing for them.
“But before that, I was already a huge fan of cricket. I did, and still do watch loads of cricket. I also play loads of backyard cricket in my spare time.”
In the petition, he says it would be relatively inexpensive for the Council to construct and maintain the nets.
“It would be an investment for the community and would last for years to come. If you sign this petition you will help convince the council to construct cricket nets to invest in the community.”
And if it all works out, that familiar phrase – “I’m off to the nets” – will be heard regularly.
