THE push to get international tourists back to Port Douglas and Cairns regions in the wake of the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic is on following a timely announcement from the Federal Government.

Speaking from the Reef Hotel and Casino just a short time ago TTNQ Mark Olsen CEO couldn’t hide his enthusiasm the Morrison government will contribute $15M in funding to help TTNQ drive and fast track the return of overseas tourism numbers back to the Far North.

“Port Douglas is one of the most popular holiday destinations anywhere in Australia,” Mr Olsen told Newsport.

“What this funding will allow us to do is to promote our region on a global scale in a significant way, but also provide support to local operators like the Quicksilvers and the Hartley's etc in the region who have had a very difficult two years.

“Essentially we are now completely focused on promoting Douglas, Cairns and our region, and importantly converting that interest into actual sales and bookings from the overseas market.

“As the Prime Minister said Tourism Australia creates demand but we here at TTNQ must drive that visitation, it’s all about the conversion now and getting tourists back to Far North Queensland.”

Prime Minister Scott Morrison echoed Mr Olsen’s sentiments.

“TTNQ is at the cutting edge of local tourism,” Mr Morrison said.

“When TTNQ is doing well, more broadly, then the Australian tourism industry is doing well.

“They’re out there selling Australia like few can and they’ve got some of the best products in the country.

“What they’ll be focusing on is that love of Australia, getting bums on seats and getting international visitors here, to the Far North, as soon as possible.”
