Local real estate agent 'Shares the Dignity' to end period poverty

Local Charity
Period poverty is not something you hear of everyday. Let that be exactly the reason why LJ Hooker in Port Douglas decided to partner up with ‘Share the Dignity’.
Share the Dignity is an Australia-wide women’s charity that works to benefit those in crisis experiencing period poverty. They do this by distributing period products to women, girls, and everyone who menstruates and needs support.
In line with International Women’s Day this Wednesday 8 March, during the whole month of March people can drop off their sanitary product donations in a collection box at the real estate office.
Share the Dignity collects hundreds of thousands of period products each year through collection drives and campaigns. These products are distributed directly to charities across Australia.
It is the first time the local real estate agent partnered up with this charity.
Annie Mitchel, Property Manager at LJ Hooker thinks this is a great initiative. ”We believe that everyone deserves to be afforded the dignity so many of us take for granted”, she said.
“There are so many women out there who struggle each month to find money to be able to buy sanitary products.
Many donations
“It is important to share with people that period poverty is out there in Australia and to make more people aware of what this charity does for women around the country.”
According to Ms Mitchell, the box in the collection office is already half full since they started at the beginning of March.
“It is incredible to see how many people care about this initiative and are willing to help. Many ladies throughout the Shire are dropping off sanitary products after their weekly shop.
“The collection box ends at the end of March, we will then send the products down to the charity for them to disburse to those who need the items the most.”
She added that Share the Dignity’s ‘End Period Poverty’ donation drive happens every March and August. “We will be participating in the August one also as well as future years to come” she said.
