Is Douglas being stung at the bowser?

Petrol Prices
Port Douglas and Mossman residents are currently paying similar if not just marginally just a few cents more at the bowser than those filling up in neighbouring Cairns.
Over the past 15 days the cheapest fuel Newsport identified across the Douglas shire for unleaded fuel was a bargain $1.85 at the Caltex at Wonga Beach.
In comparison the cheapest place Newsport identified in Cairns to buy fuel proved to be Maranos’ in Edmonton, with drivers on some days paying $2.07 for unleaded.
Just 24 hours ago Douglas and Mossman drivers were only paying a few cents more than their Cairns counterparts.
On Monday Mossman Ampol and Maranos’ were charging $2.11 for unleaded, with diesel at both costing $2.29. On the same day in Cairns unleaded cost $2.09 at Liberty Woree and the same price at the busy United station on Sheridan St.
“I’ve been told we’re paying at times 20c more for unleaded and a few more cents for diesel up here in Port compared to Cairns at the moment but I haven’t come across that,” a Port fuel attendant who preferred not to be named told Newsport.
“If anything, the difference is only a few cents either way, on most occasions.”
The rise in fuel prices in the Far North and across the country comes on the back of the ongoing conflict between Russia and the Ukraine which has caused recent unprecedented highs.
