CROCS AFL has shown other local clubs what junior development is all about after more than 20 emerging players recently turned out for the first week of the highly popular Auskick program at Douglas sporting complex.
Auskick is a nation-wide AFL program established many years ago to teach basic footy fundamentals, like kicking and catching to boys and girls aged between five and 12.
The program also introduces infants and attendees to teamwork and what it means to be a part of a team.
“Auskick is a really inclusive program that delivers footy to young kids,” Crocs junior president Craig Mitchell said.
“Auskick solely about enjoyment and having fun. As the kids get older they start to learn more about the key fundamentals of the game.”
The Crocs run an impressive juniors program and provide offerings for most age groups.
“We encourage any child with an interest in footy in the area to come to a training session with us – everyone is welcome,” Mr Mitchell said.
“We offer boys teams from under-8s to under-18s and girls’ youth teams.”
Meantime Port Douglas junior Crocs recently announced its hardworking committee for this season.
It will consist of Craig Mitchell as president, Darren Saxon Vice president, Sam McCallum, Treasurer and Bek Raseta, Secretary.
The general committee includes Andy Fraser, Laura Gray, Charli Feben and Vanessa Callipari.
