Slice of paradise calls with campaign for working holiday makers

FNQ looks to rebuild working traveller numbers

Working while enjoying everything that the Tropical North has to offer – this is the message to travellers in a hope to draw them back to the region.
Before Covid hit there were 150,000 working holidaymakers in Australia at any one time reducing to 38,000 in the midst of the pandemic.
A Tik Tok campaign has been launched to turn this around and is being promoted with the chance to win a first-class international flight and free tours with the aim of luring back those travelling workers.
Tourism Tropical North Queensland launched the $100,000 First Class to Paradise campaign with youth travel platform Global Work and Travel earlier this week targeting young adults in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Germany interested in working and playing overseas.
Region on show to working travellers
Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Port Douglas and Daintree, Tara Bennet, had great praise for the organisation with this campaign.
“I congratulate Tourism Tropical North Queensland on this much needed campaign to attract more Working Holiday Makers.
“The TikTok campaign is targeting the United Kingdom, Ireland and Germany, markets that have demonstrated high demand for the region.
“The need for workers is great and Working Holiday Makers are more inclined to stay in back packers helping overcome the significant rental crisis the region is facing. We have a compelling story of discovery, interesting work opportunities and tropical living to share and I believe this campaign will position Tropical North Queensland as the destination of choice for Working Holiday Makers.”
Setting the benchmark as a working holiday destination
Chief Executive Officer Mark Olsen said the campaign would leverage the work by Tourism Australia and Tourism and Events Queensland to revive the Working Holiday Maker market.
“Travellers aged 18 to 30 who sign up for a Working Holiday trip with Global Work and Travel and begin their working holiday in Tropical North Queensland over the next 12 months will receive a free tropical adventure tour valued around $100,” he said.
“One lucky person who registers before July 3 will go into the draw to win a first class flight with Singapore Airlines to Australia.
“Domestic travel is booming in Tropical North Queensland with a record $2.7 billion expenditure in 2021 and we urgently need more workers as international travellers start to return.
“Cairns was known as the place where young people could work in paradise, whether it was on a dive boat exploring the Great Barrier Reef or in an eco-lodge in the heart of the world’s oldest rainforest. In between shifts they would be sunning themselves by the Esplanade Lagoon, catching up with friends from around the world at a nightclub, or heading out for a day of adventure rafting or skydiving.”
Tropical north builds as top choice
Global Work and Travel CEO and Co-founder Jürgen Himmelmann said Tropical North Queensland is one of the most popular for their travellers and for good reason.
“This campaign will drive home the multitude of lifestyle benefits you can enjoy in this part of the world,” Mr Himmelmann said.
Travellers in frenzy over far north haven
As promotions like this continue the online frenzy and discussion increases in choosing the tropical north as their destination for a working holiday.
The positions available range from hospitality through to retail and tourism roles so the choice is wide open for all skill sets and experience.
Comments on social media sites targeted to working holiday makers are positive and the head of Tourism Australia Mark Olsen had the final message for them.
“We look forward to welcoming young travellers to Tropical North Queensland where they can become an important part of an exciting industry showcasing two World Heritage areas.”
