Five second half tries and an impressive defensive display has helped Mossman to its most impressive win of the year after downing CDRL heavyweights Brothers 40-34 at Stan Williams Park.

In what looms as a potential grand final match up the Sharks proved too strong for Brothers overcoming a slight half time deficit to eventually claim a narrow six-point win.

While the Sharks are known for their ability to score tries it was their tenacity in defence that would have impressed player coach Joel Marama.

The Sharks jumped out of the gates after the break with three tries in 11 minutes, while further four pointers to Kalani Anau (71st min) and Stanley Anau (75th min) helped Mossman secure a superb win on the road.

Meantime, in AFL Cairns action Port Douglas Crocs turned in a highly determined performance but in the end narrowly went down to competition favourites Cairns City Lions.

In front of a large crowd at the sportsground the Crocs were up by four points at the main break and by the same margin at three quarter time.

However the defending premiers dug deep to claim a 11.13.79 to 8.14.62 win.

Ethan McCullough and Liam Brandt were among the Crocs’ best players.

Lastly, in FNQ Rugby, Barron Trinity beat the Reef Raiders 28-0.
