Indigenous forum ignites Far North

Both Douglas Shire and national indigenous tourism experiences alike have been in the spotlight over the past days as the Far North hosted the highly prestigious Australian Indigenous Tourism Conference.
Under its theme of ‘The Time is Now - Let’s Ignite’ the conference, held at the Pullman International hotel, Cairns, focused on issues such as youth, environment, environment, culture, and tourism business.
The main objective of the conference was to connect indigenous tourism operators to discuss future opportunities, challenges and crucial questions within the industry.
“This was a significant opportunity for Aboriginal tourism operators from across Australia to share their stories and showcase their tourism businesses while spending time in one of Australia’s most iconic tourism destinations,” Western Australian Indigenous Tourism Operators’ Council (WAITOC) CEO Robert Taylor explained.
The ongoing creation of authentic and culturally meaningful indigenous tourism experiences, that both domestic and international guests can enjoy across the Douglas shire remains a key and ongoing objective of tourism experts across the Far North.
