Indigenous tops for Crocs

Naidoc Crocs

This weekend the Crocs will take on the Cairns Saints at home for the Naidoc week round and to mark the occasion the team will pull on special indigenous guernseys.
The wearing off the footy tops designed by Davinder Hart symbolises culture, respect, recognition, commitment and is an acknowledgement to our indigenous players, club participants and the wider Indigenous community for their contribution to AFL.
Crocs player Jesse Mawson told Newsport it’s wonderful to have Indigenous culture recognised by AFL Cairns and the Crocs “We have such a diverse community up here including the indigenous population and whenever we have an opportunity to honour our first nation’s people, we grab it with both hands” he said.
Josh Lea was excited to don the guernsey “It’s great to promote Naidoc Week this way and run out onto the ground in these fantastic tops, I’m sure there’ll be a lot of support from locals and visitors”. Daniel Moore loves the design “It symbolises such a beautiful culture and anything we can do as players to promote that culture is tops with me” he said.
Crocs footy ops manager Matty Laskey told Newsport “There will be indigenous players taking to the field in both the reserves and seniors ranks and we’re very proud that’s the case and with the wearing of these special guernseys by the boys just caps off that acknowledgement of the important role of indigenous players in our great game”.
The Crocs are sitting in 2nd spot on the ladder as they take on the team one below them so there’ll be no give and take on Saturday. Reserves run onto the ground at 12pm, with the senior’s game starting at 2pm at the Port Douglas Sporting Complex.
