The achievements of local First Nation community members right across the Douglas shire will be highlighted and showcased at the end of the month.

The highly regarded EKY awards evening at the Sheraton Mirage on July 29 will present a number of prestigious gongs including sports person of the year, musician and artist of the year, role model of the year and male and female advocate of year.

The highly coveted elder of the year, in both male and female categories, will also be announced during the star-studded gala affair.

“The awards are an opportunity to bring mob together and to shine a light on the wonderful things that have been achieved by community members over the past 12 months,” event spokesperson Kirsty Burchill told Newsport.

“We’ve already sold 130 tickets, that’s ten more based on total sales from last year.

“We’re hopeful we can sell around 180 tickets.”
