Residents are advised that king tides will be experienced in Douglas Shire for a week from today 28 January to Friday 4 February, peaking on Tuesday 1 February.
Predicted rains will make tidal flooding harder to identify.
Avoid parking cars in low-lying tidal areas such as Mudlo and Mowbray Streets in Port Douglas and never drive through floodwaters.
Motorists are reminded that tidal flooding is saltwater, which can damage cars on contact.
Motorists are urged to drive carefully and slowly, not only for the safety of road users and pedestrians, but to lessen the impact of bow waves, which can push water into adjacent properties.
King tide levels are expected at the following times (other areas may vary):
- Today 28 January: 2.72m at 6.42am
- Saturday 29 January: 2.98m at 7.27am
- Sunday 30 January: 3.18m at 8.10am
- Monday 31 January: 3.29m at 8:51am
- Tuesday 1 February: 3.31m at 9:31am
- Wednesday 2 February: 3.23m at 10:09am
- Thursday 3 February: 3.05m at 10:47am
- Friday 4 February: 2.81m at 11.24am
