FROGS, turtles, and dolphins will be splashing around Mossman Pool when a revamped Learn-to-Swim program starts in 2022.

Registrations are now open across six different classes – each assigned their own aquatic animal – for the popular program which restarts on January 25 and 27 this year.

The classes, which will be held every Tuesday and Thursday, will be available for children aged five months and older for the next 10 weeks.

For the first time, an aged-based and ability-based program will be held to ensure young paddlers are in the most appropriate group for their swimming level.

Age Based:

  • Tadpoles – Babies – Ages 5 months – 15 months
  • Frogs – Toddlers – Ages 15 months – 3 years
  • Turtle – Pre-school – Ages 3+ years

Ability Based:

  • Crocodile – 4+ years
  • Dolphin – 6+ years
  • Shark – 8+ years

Douglas Shire Council’s Team Leader of Aquatic & Leisure, Jeremy Lebeuf, said the team would make sure this learn-to-swim program would be the best yet.

“We have an instructor with 10 years’ experience and a fun, learning environment is always the priority,” he said.

“These classes are a great opportunity to introduce your babies and toddlers to the water, or for young swimmers to get more confident to beat the heat this summer.”

Various morning and afternoon sessions are available.

Each week costs $25 if you pay as you go (week by week), or you can pay the discounted rate of $200 upfront for the full program.

You can register your interest online here or call the Mossman Pool and Caravan Park at 0417 768 266.

Once you have registered, a staff member will be in touch to organise a suitable class for your child to attend.
