Fuel prices reach record highs in Far North Queensland

RACQ has revealed fuel price records had been broken in parts of the State as the cost of unleaded petrol (ULP) reached new highs.
The daily average price of ULP had surpassed records set in November 2021 in parts of far north, north and central Queensland.
RACQ spokesperson Kate Leonard-Jones said prices would likely continue to climb in coming days.
“There are a number of international factors that have sparked the recent increase in petrol prices across regional Queensland, including a rise in global oil prices and supply and demand issues,” Ms Leonard-Jones said.
“Daily average ULP prices in major regional centres have been creeping up slowly, rising between one and three cents per litre (cpl) over the past seven days, and we haven’t seen the end of it yet.
“These records are likely to be broken again as prices continue to rise.”
Ms Leonard-Jones said motorists should shop around for the cheapest fuel.
“In some areas, there is still up to 10cpl difference between what is being charged at the cheapest sites compared to the most expensive,” she said.
