Do you want a change of scenery, love the tropics and love rugby? The Reef Raiders, Port Douglas’ Rugby Club, is looking for a secretary and treasurer for the 2022 season which runs from March to August.
Laura McHugh, who has been secretary at the club for the last two years, said that everyone is welcome at, “what we think is the best club in the Far North Queensland Rugby competition”.
“It is a great opportunity for people who want to be involved in the rugby community without having to play”, she said.
“I love being secretary, it’s been a great way to stay involved at the club and be a part of all different levels of club involvement.
Ms McHugh explained that as the club secretary, you are the person that provides the link between members, management committee and outside agencies such as FNQ Rugby, sponsors and merchandise.
“The treasurer oversees all financial transactions and fundraising efforts going in or out of the club.”
Community
“My favourite part of the Port Douglas Rugby Club is our community. Everyone is there to help each other, to build each other up and to support each other. This makes it a joy to be a part of the club.
“Joining a smaller club like ours makes the transition into community sport an easy one.
“If you decide to become part of our club, we can help with finding work and make lifelong friends within our amazing community.”
Rugby in the tropics
“Our relaxing village environment also beckons many tourists and sports enthusiasts from all over the globe.
“We have a truly unique international combination of players from Australia, the United States, Mexico, France, England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Fiji, Samoa and New Zealand.
“With our ‘Field of Dreams’ nestled between world heritage listed attractions such as the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest, gives us all the more reason to experience rugby in the tropics.”
The more help the better
Ms McHugh said that the club is also looking for general committee members. “We would also love, but not necessarily, a sponsorship and fundraising coordinator and a registrar. By having multiple people helping it lightens the load.”
