Cooya residents band together to make an appeal to Australia Post for their suburb to have a mail delivery system like everyone else.
Cooya residents band together to make an appeal to Australia Post for their suburb to have a mail delivery system like everyone else.

Councillor Abigail Noli has stepped in to assist Cooya Beach in their quest to get a mail delivery service.

In a statement on her Facebook page, she said: “I understand that Cooya Beach is trying to get mail delivery from Australia Post.

"Although, this is not in Council's control, I will try to assist in this quest. I understand there has already been some communication with Council."

Feel free to send anything to me also to: abigail.noli@douglas.qld.gov.au

And in supporting a petition on the Cooya Beach Facebook page, they have outlined their concerns in a post addressed to Australia Post:

“Cooya Beach wants mail delivery.

“Are you looking into this? Why do we have to pay for a PO Box when mail delivery isn’t an option!!

“We are a small town which is not remote. We have a lot of small children in the area which makes picking up mail UNREASONABLE.

“Sometimes we have hot cars, hot climate and also wet climate. Why can’t we get mail delivery when mail gets delivered to the Daintree Newell Beach. But not us, we would love top hear from you.

“There has been a survey done, yet we’re still had no response. Now we have to pay $44 to get our mail sent to a PO Box. Can you please explain this to me?”

A Cooya Beach resident, who requested anonymity, said there is enough support for this and we are hoping that Australia Post responds.
