Far North police are investigating an incident in which a man jumped on the back of a train and dangerously rode on the outside of the train from Kuranda to Cairns.

They have labelled the act as reckless and are looking at potential charges.

Police are seeking public assistance to identify the man involved in this dangerous activity, in which he could could have been badly injured, if not killed.

The man is described as Caucasian, in his late teens or early 20s, with dark hair, wearing a grey t-shirt with a lighter palm tree pattern on the chest, navy blue shorts, black socks, dark grey sneakers with white soles, and a black backpack.
