Motorcyclist learns the hard way at 160km/h

Road Safety
You never know who else could be watching you speed – this motorcyclist found out the hard way after allegedly overtaking an unmarked police car at 160km/h in a 100km/h zone on the Kennedy Highway at Mareeba.
The 55-year-old woman was fined $1,286 and eight demerit points, making it one very expensive trip.
On a motorcycle, you are 30 times more likely to die in a crash than if you were in a car.
Last February Police reported they saw 13 motorcyclists die on our roads, the highest of any month last year.
"We want to make sure this does not happen this year" said a spokesperson for Queensland Police.
An analysis of motorcyclist crashes from 1 January – 29 March, 2021, showed:
- Almost all (91%) of riders were male
- Half of fatalities (50%) occurred from Friday night to Sunday
- The rider was at fault in almost three quarters (73%) of crashes
- Of riders at fault, 93% of crashes involved excess speed for the conditions.
Police want to change the narrative for February 2022 reminding motorcyclists a safer ride starts with you.
