Local Police have reminded those across the Douglas Shire that receive E-scooters over the festive period to be mindful of newly established laws that govern this type of personal mobility device.

“An e-scooter, or a personal mobility device (PMD), is designed for single person use only and is not permitted to travel faster than 25KM/hr,” a QPS spokesperson said.

“Riders under the age of 16 must be supervised at all times while riding a PMD in a public place, while children under the age of 12 are not permitted to ride a PMD.

“On Tuesday November 1, new rules and increased penalties for the use of PMD’s came into effect in Queensland.

Meantime Queensland Police have received increased reports of scooters being stolen so be sure to protect your new scooter by purchasing a lock when you pick up your PMD.
