Just days out from Christmas Douglas and Mossman Police officials have reminded residents to be vigilant and aware of their home security to avoid being victims of unwanted break and enters.

Placing valuables such as mobile phones, watches and car keys out of sight can assist with keeping these items secure.

Ensuring your doors and windows are locked before bedtime is always best practice and allows peace of mind.

If you're off on holidays and leaving the car at home pack the car keys and take them with you, or store them securely on your property.

Let your neighbours know that you will be away so they can keep an eye out for any suspicious activity.

Residents are urged to report suspicious behaviour by contacting Policelink on 131 444.

Residents are also encouraged to register their CCTV systems with police in an effort to prevent crime and make the community safer. You can do so via this link.

For further information on what can be done to secure your home, review the Home Security Audit Brochure.
