Great golf and a great cause - Huge finale galvanises Douglas Shire

Two lifelong buddies from Mossman have claimed the much-anticipated Survivor golf finale and in the process helped spread, publicise and increase the much more important message of men’s mental health awareness.
In front of a 300-person strong crowd at the Sheraton Mirage Mossman duo Couper Smith and Jack Roberts otherwise known as “Young Guns” overcome two other outfits from Yeppoon to win the two person ambrose competition.
The winning duo finished with a net -10 and had to wait two hours to see if they had even qualified for the playoffs.
For their troubles the young pair won a swag of prizes including an all-inclusive cruise and golf equipment.
On top of that the pair have been confirmed as junior ambassadors for renowned golf brand, Taylor Made, thanks to their positive attitudes on the day.
“We are overwhelmed with the amount of support we enjoyed over the weekend, both by players and the general Douglas shire community,” event Co-founder Dave Cameron told Newsport.
“I am beyond delighted how the finale played out and what we were able to achieve with the concept throughout the year.
“We’re already looking forward to next year’s schedule.”
Mr Cameron confirmed $8000 was raised for the event’s official charity, Kick On.
Next year’s schedule will be released on December 20, with the first event in 2023 to be held at Port Douglas on January 28.
