Free info session on skilled migrant worker program

SKILLED WORKERS

The transport provider for Far Northern Milling at Mossman is among Douglas employers registered for an information session covering an existing skilled migrant worker program, in Port Douglas on Thursday (Dec 15).
Earlier this year the Mill put out calls for more drivers, as shortages affected production and put the cane crushing season behind schedule.
The free information meeting in Douglas will focus on how employers in the region can possibly take advantage of the existing Far North Queensland Designated Area Migration Agreement – otherwise known as FNQ DAMA.
Douglas Shire is one of the designated areas covered by FNQ DAMA, a skilled migration program tailored to the needs of the Far North.
It differs in many ways from standard skilled migration pathways, providing more flexibility and certainty for both employers and workers.
The program has for over three years helped employers access overseas workers and address critical skill shortages, where and when positions cannot be filled from the Australian labour market.
Through various concessions, FNQ DAMA provides access to a greater pool of overseas workers than standard skilled migration programs.
Cairns Chamber of Commerce Migration Manager Geoff Heath, who oversees the program, said Thursday’s information session will “de-mystify the FNQ DAMA and unpack how it can work for your business.”
It will also discuss the program’s ‘Occupations and Concessions List’ – and explain how businesses can apply for a request for endorsement, including the steps and information needed.
