From live music to art exhibitions, here’s our pick of the best events to visit in our region this weekend!

Stu harcourt at the Port Douglas Yacht Club

This Saturday you can listen to the beautiful acoustic tunes of Stu Harcourt set at the stunning backdrop of the Yachty.

Stu has been a travelling musician for over 20 years, performing in Toronto, Canada’s music scene and busking around Europe.

Stu's husky, sometimes soaring vocal ability, earthy lyrics, accomplished guitar work and acoustic grooves with colours of didgeridoo have continued to delight audiences around Australia and the world.

Stu bangs out a mix of originals and covers, using vocals, guitar, stompbox and didgeridoo to make a full epic soundscape.

Tennyson King live at The Reef Hotel Casino

Time to adventure with the sights and sounds of Tennyson King.

The international indie folk singer-songwriter Tennyson King is rapidly gathering fans all over the world.

Born in Hong Kong, raised in Canada, this nomadic musician brings a jovial personality to the stage.

Expect rock and roll infused with earthy roots and blues subtly laced in psychedelic ear candy.

Catch this indie rock nomad live on his Aussie tour.

Friday 16 & Saturday 17 December. More info about the event here.

Serving Country Exhibition at Tanks Arts Centre

This special and important Indigenous photographic exhibition was launched last weekend at the Tanks Arts Centre.

Serving Country recognises the valuable contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service men and women who have served or are serving in the Australian Defence Force.

The fact that they served at all at a time when they were denied the basic rights of citizenship is significant – a situation not fully corrected until the 1970s.

Go and check it out until 21 January 2023.

More info about the exhibition here.

Opening of ARTNOW FNQ at Cairns Art Gallery

Every year the best and most inspiring art being produced by emerging to established artists in Far North Queensland is being showcased in the ARTNOW FNQ exhibition.

This year, Ellie Buttrose, Curator of Contemporary Australian Art at the Queensland Art Gallery|Gallery of Modern Art, selected 18 artists from more than 60 submissions.

The exhibition opens on Saturday 17 December and will run until 12 February 2023.

And while you’re there, make sure you also take the time to admire the beautiful bird paintings and sculptures of artist Roland Nancarrow.

The works in this exhibition are a celebration of the unique species of birds that inhabit the Far North Queensland region, and a commentary on the artist’s deep concern for the effects of global warming on bird populations around the world.
