A WRITER with a proven niche for delivering popular kids’ books will be in Port Douglas this weekend to talk with local children about her latest offering.

Talented writer and primary school educator Charlie Archbold will visit Whileaway Book Shop and Café on Sunday from 10.30am to talk more about “The Sugarcane Kids and the Red Bottomed Boat” – a story, ironically, that is set in the surrounds of Far North Queensland.

“We are very excited about Charlie's visit because she is a highly awarded Australian children's writer with a rapidly rising reputation for writing great kids’ books,” a Whileaway Bookshop and Cafe spokesperson told Newsport.

“We also especially love the fact that this new book is set in our area and all of our local readers and parents will have a lot of fun with the familiarity of the location and plot.

“She is really looking forward to meeting kids, parents and grandparents and talking about her books.”

Over the past few years the author has been shortlisted and claimed a number of literary accolades.

Her recent novel “The Sugarcane Kids and the Red Bottomed Boat” was this year shortlisted for the text prize and The Readings Children’s Prize.

In 2016 Charlie’s debut young adult novel, “Mallee Boys” claimed the Adelaide Literary Festival unpublished manuscript award.

Two years later the same novel was named a Children’s Book Council of Australia honour book.
