Mossman State School

The school disco ran by the P&C raised a massive $2000 while everybody had lots of fun!

Mr Jake held a VEX workshop and campout at the school giving students an opportunity to design and engineer their VEX IQ robots in preparation for the upcoming regional competition at Smithfield in Term 4.

Port Douglas State School

Students spent a day in the best classroom imaginable spending the day at Four Mile Beach to learn more about our coastal environment and conducting an Inter-tidal investigation. The year five and six students walked to the beach to take part in activities directly linked to their Science curriculum.

They learnt about flotsam on the beach, the adaptions of Casuarina trees, the impact of oil spills and what causes tides. This was followed by an inter-tidal investigation where the students took advantage of the low tide to search for marine life.

The excursion is part of an evolving curriculum that looks to contextualise student learning and inquiry-based education through links to our amazing local environment. The day was a huge success with an overwhelmingly positive response from the students who relished the opportunity to spend the day learning in a real-life context.

A massive thanks goes to the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, Low Isles Preservation Society, Local Marine Advisory Committee as well as local Port Douglas Marine Biologists.

To celebrate Science Week, students from Port Douglas state School headed out of the classroom for the annual ‘Science on the Oval’. Classroom teachers created a range of fun and engaging science activities along with a visit from Mossman State High School and Wildlife Habitat allowing students to roam the oval enjoying learning in the great outdoors.

Wonga Beach State School
